"PDA" Single Release Party

Festival Hall, 1215 10 Ave SE, Calgary

Couples Therapy is a genre-bending crew from Calgary, Alberta that refuses to choose between jazz lounge and rock show. Their songs layer smoky R&B grooves with soaring rock choruses, creating a sound that’s as emotionally charged as it is rhythmically contagious. Formed as an outlet for a group of friends and session musicians to step out from behind other artists and explore their own stories, Couples Therapy channels life’s highs, lows, and everything in between into lushly arranged, groove-heavy tracks. Their debut single, “PDA” (out January 20th), captures the band’s signature blend of soul, pop, and rock — equal parts heart and humor. For Couples Therapy, music isn’t just expression; it’s release. You could call it self-care. Or, as they like to put it — like therapy, but with louder guitars. The always incredible Kate Stevens opens the night, with her captivating voice and songs that invite listeners into the snapshots of her life; moments of heartbreak, friendship, and the kind of love that lingers.

All ages show. Doors at 7pm

About

Music for your mood swings.

From R&B to rock, Couples Therapy channels every emotion into something worth moving to — like therapy, but with louder guitars.

Welcome to Couples Therapy — where R&B grooves meet alternative rock energy, and at least two of the band members are probably married to each other.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, this five-piece started as a creative outlet for a bunch of session musicians who had hard drives full of riffs and chord progressions and notebooks full of lyrics just dying to turn into songs of their own. The result? A genre-bending sound that lives somewhere between jazz lounge and rock show — smooth, emotional, and just a little bit chaotic.

Made up of Shelby Wilson  on vocals,  Stephanie Chapman on vocals and keys, Ben Montgomery on drums, Cameron Dougall on bass, and Jonathan Lagore on guitar, the chemistry runs deep — partly because, well, some of them are married.

Their music explores the full emotional rollercoaster of life — love, heartbreak, joy, frustration — and somehow makes it feel good to feel it all.

Think of it as therapy, only louder.
